I sent the following note to my family:
What do I want to do with the rest of my life?
I believe life is a gift from God and what I do with it is my gift back to him. I believe I will literally be able to hand my life back to him someday.
- I want to continue to grow my faith, practice, and contributions
- I want to enjoy and invest in my marriage.
- I want to enjoy and invest in my kids (Jim & Amanda, Mandy & Greg).
- I want to enjoy and invest in my grandkids – each one, as individuals and as a group.
- I want to take care of myself: body & soul. This includes identifying bad habits and mastering them (my intake of food and drink, my thoughts, my words, and my actions).
- I want to live in a positive yet counter-cultural way, always striving to understand and apply truth. To be light in a dark world.
- I want to build a successful podcast on life & leadership.
- I want to help good people win through coaching, teaching, and writing.
- I want to create recurring income so as not to become a burden in my eldest years, provide for my wife, and perhaps be a blessing to our family tree – if God graces me with longevity.
- I want to travel, especially in places rich with history.
Simply put, even with all of my shortcomings, I want to be found faithful. I want to steward well what has been entrusted to me.
The reason I share this with you is because you are more important to me than my own life. I cannot imagine my life on earth without you in it. I pray for us all – often. And I would appreciate your prayers for me.

Why do I share this publicly?
I share it not to shine a light on me but to shine a light on you. You matter. Your life matters. You add value to the world. Think about what you want to do with the rest of your life. I bet it is exciting. I encourage you to share it with those you love. By doing so, you are casting a vision for your life and you are teaching others to do the same. Your thoughts form ideas. Ideas become language. Language becomes flesh – actual living things.
