Loyalty and kindness are the cornerstone of strong connections, whether within families, friendships, or partnerships. Yet, being loyal isn’t always easy. This blog post will teach you how to build loyalty in relationships, fostering trust, and enduring connections. Discover the art of loyalty and kindness, and how they can enrich your character and relationships, ultimately earning favor in the eyes of both God and humanity.
Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. – Proverbs 3:3-4, NLT
Marriage, family, friends, neighbors, team members, and partnerships have written, implied, or assumed allegiances. As citizens, we actively pledge loyalty to our country. As Christians, we commit to follow the way of Christ. We offer loyalty and kindness as the glue that keeps us together. It builds trust, confidence, and productivity. Loyalty is not always easy but it is a virtue admired by heaven and earth.
How to Become a Loyal Person and Build Loyalty in Relationships
- Think Relationship, not Transaction. Relationships require work and patience. Transactions give something in exchange for something else. Relationships require dialogue, clarifications, and room for imperfect people and disagreements. They require forgiveness. Transactions by their nature are not forgiving. Transactions are pass-fail events.
- Think Long Term, not Easy. Relationships are rarely 50/50. Some seasons will require you to be and do more than 50%. In other seasons, you will be leaning on others to get through. HARD is what shapes your character. Stop looking for EASY Street. Embrace the idea of making short-term sacrifices for long-term gains. Don’t burn bridges because of short-term emotions and reactions.
- Constructive Conflict never threatens. Don’t make threats. Threats immediately cut off the relationship. They remove all hope for virtue and reconciliation. Threats do two things at the same time. They reveal you have been overtaken by fear. They reveal your desire is the highest good (at least in your own mind).
- Work hard to Respect but always Honor. We often lose respect for someone because we are ignorant of all of the facts. If you want to be a loyal person, you are required to walk in their shoes. You can’t do that if you are not pursuing the relationship. Respect is earned but too often we make judgments without doing the hard work. If you end up in a clear disagreement, humility still requires you to honor. You can disagree but have enough humility to realize you don’t own the franchises for truth and wisdom.
If you desire favor with both God and man, do your best to be loyal.
Work diligently to protect those who are not present. Work diligently to be transparent in your private conversations while honoring others in public. If you speak truthfully in private while honoring in public, you will be appreciated as someone who tells the truth to the person it belongs to, and to everyone else, they can mind their own business.
