Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.
Proverbs 24:27
There is wisdom, respect, and results to be gained by understanding and applying this ancient proverb. It’s a first things first principle and the power of delayed gratification. It’s a principle of stewardship, honor, and wise leadership.
Do your planning…
First, use your God-given ability to think and plan. Create your work in your mind first. Imagination and planning is the first creation. Think it through carefully. Take it to a higher level by including others. Your plans will get even better and wiser if you do.
Prepare your fields…
Second, lay the groundwork. Use whatever resources you have, investing them heavily into the work. Resource work. Feed the work. Put the initial profits back into the work. The work is the priority. Furthermore, the work is what produces the fruit. The work gives back to you tenfold. So, invest in what gives back!
Before building your house…
Many raise capital and immediately use the money of others to establish a large salary and many fringe benefits. While many make a little profit and spend it on themselves. And many others get a raise and put themselves right back into the marginal place they were before by upgrading their luxuries. These are the kind of people YOU DO NOT WANT TO INVEST IN and YOU DO NOT WANT TO HIRE.
But then there are those who catch your attention in a positive way. Firstly, they treat the money you invested as holy ground. Then they live from necessities instead of luxuries. And also, they are builders. These are the ones to watch.
This lesson is for entrepreneurs who raise capital. Also, this lesson is for corporate leaders who somehow believe their company provides an endless supply of money. They throw money at problems instead of following the steps in this proverb. This lesson is for those who inherit from others and think they deserve it and don’t realize someone else worked hard for it. Most importantly, this lesson is for all of us.
In conclusion, use your mind and your team to solve problems. Reinvest in the work. And surely, the rest will come.
